Quakertown Cruisin' Alive Classic Car Show

Autumn Alive returned to Quakertown , Pennsylvania on October 6th and a new feature this year was the Cruisin' Alive Classic Car Show-- in association with the First Pennsylvania Mustang Club-- and a not-to-be-missed line-up of musical performers. Over 200 vehicles manufactured in 1982 or before will line Front and Broad Streets from Hellertown to Fourth Avenue. Ten People's Choice and Specialty Awards were presented to cars at the end of the show. We had the honor of sponsoring the Bux-Mont Awards Sponsors Choice Award at the First Annual Quakertown Alive Car Show. The photo below is the winner. This 1960 BelAir was in pristine condition inside and out. Among the cars that were at the show, we thought this one deserved the trophy the most. The car looks like it hasn't been driven since 1960, I mean the thing was literally in immaculate shape. The weather was gorgeous on Saturday, with early morning fog clearing, and many car enthusiasts took the opportunity to visi

Making them feel real

I am not the average person, so I do not know what the average person thinks. I do know, however, that I like being recognized, and I do not like being put down. Hey who does right. When you put people down it makes them feel detached from their objective. The relationship breaks down and progress can not be made. No good can come from constantly berating people. Conversely, when you reward achievement you help your bottom line, while developing your human resources. Project management should dictate that you recognize milestones as you achieve them. When people know they are doing a good job, they strive to maintain that level of excellence. If business is about maintaining relationships, and recognizing achievements is a way to keep these relationships in tact, we have the ability to make our lives easier through recognizing achievements. They do it in sports, it should be done in business.

Saying thank you makes a world of difference

Thank yous can mean and do a lot of things. When it is said by the right person it can realign your employees with your companies strategic goal. The key objective here is saying it the right way and to the right people. Recognizing achievements is a way to say thank you. Giving a plaque, a gift clock, or a certificate of achievement all accomplish the same objective. There are times and places for each of these things, and there are times that just a pat on the back is necessary. What you need to keep in mind is that saying thank you the right way is whats important. Companies give plaques to their employees for a project completion or for years of service. This is the perfect way for some to recognize their employees, while other industries or departments, or companies require a crystal award, a corporate gift, or just a thank you note and some recognition on the company website. A recognition specialists job is to ensure that your company is properly recognizing these achievem

Hiring, Recognition, and keeping employees happy

We all know how important it is to hire good employees or to find good volunteers if you are working for a non profit organization such as a youth sports org. This can especially be a burden if you are on a tight budget. After reading an article in Fortune Small Business , and in trying to hire a full time employee, this article helped reinforce this fact. Diana Nguyen is 33. She started her career as a family physician and worked at an HMO seeing 25 patients in four hours. Doing this for sometime led Diana to branch out and open her own private practice. She kept trying to hire employees that weren't the right fit for her organization, and it hurt her business. While attending the UC Irvine School of Business extension program she learned how to find talented employees. This program enabled her to identify and hire an office manager who was able to grown Hguyen practice for her, while she focused on the stuff she likes doing, cosmetic medicine. And she is enjoying he

Univest Grand Prix

It's the attention to detail, as I am sure many of you know, that makes all t he difference in this world, and it just so happens it's also what we, as recognition experts, pride ourselves on. I was at a luncheon yesterday put on by the Indian Valley Chamber of Commerce , and it was a great event. With much attention to detail, the program went off without a hitch. John Sparta, from Sparta Cycling , was talking about the Univest Grand Prix , giving us an update as to how it is coming and changes to be expected. With entering into a new community, it compelled me to fill out a volunteer form, because hearing this guy talk about what a great community event this is and how it's great for everyone involved was very refreshing to hear. I mean I knew the Pennridge community was this way because I grew up there, and I had a feeling that the Souderton community would be the same way, but hearing him speak really hit home. This guy, from New York, really knew wha t it took t

3 Easy Recognition Tips

Taken from incentive magazine. Written by Jacqueline Durett and www.maketheirday.com Write a card to the employee, or even to the employees family, explaining the employee's positive qualities. Take a big project you are plannind on delegating and think about who it growth opportunity for. Take 10 minutes to have a performance free talk with your direct reports. Supplying lunch is even better.

Awards programs and choice

Awards programs and choice have not always gone hand in hand. It was generally accepted that whatever the manager or boss thought was sufficient to give to employees to recognize achievements was sufficient and achieved the goals of motivating the employees. We know that to be totally false! People like choice but too much choice can be a bad thing. It's like Goldilocks, she didn't want to burn her tongue on the porridge that was too hot and the porridge that was too cold was not very tasty. It took her unt il the third bowl to find the porridge that was just right, and baby bear may not of thought it was the right temperature for him, even though it was perfect for Miss Locks. The point of this is there is not a one size fits all approach to this recognition thing. The goals themselves will often times be different. One thing is for sure though, you need to approach it with goals in mind and then approach it accordingly. Plaques and awards are the second most used re

What it's about

There are times that take away your breath and make you feel proud to know a particular person or to be associated with an organization because of the things they do or say to further that organizations cause. This world is filled with many selfless people who do things that often go unrecognized. And since it is our job to recognize achievements, I figured it was only right to bring this cause to your attention. Steve Kendra is the head of The Childrens Tumor Foundation , a non-profit 501(c)(3) medical foundation, dedicated to improving the health and well being of individuals and families affected by the neurofibromatoses (NF). Steve is dedicated to this cause because he has seen the debilitating effects of the disease firsthand. Steve is so dedicated that he and a group of his friends is participating in the Race Across America, a hard core endurance bicycle race across America to raise awareness and funds to go towards research for the Childrens Tumor Foundation. He is a tru

Our towns, our teams.

If you are anything like me, and I know in this area that there are thousands of us, you are an avid follower of professional sports and our Philadelphia teams. You are also well aware of the heartache we as Philadelphia sports fans have had to endure in recent years, and some of your kids are growing up not knowing what it's like to get Playoff Fever or know what it's like even going to the finals. This is really unfortunate, especially because we are such a passionate bunch and want nothing more than a winner in this town. We are an area full of winners, rich traditions, and also great heartache. Being in the awards and recognition business, knowing what goes into championships, and the sacrifice and blood sweat and tears involved, I know it's not as easy as it looks to build a winner. It often seems, though, that things never work out even remotely close to as planned, as evidence with the Freddy Garcia debacle that is currently surrounding the Philadelphia Phillies

Learning about the Harleysville Community

So we are continuing to settle into our new digs over at the second store . Slowly, more samples are arriving, more and more customers are starting to trickle in, and we are starting to become a part of the community; all important factors in opening our second store. We are even learning new things, as if that never happens. For example, in the course of reading up on the area and its thriving community in hopes of learning more about the people who use our products, I stumbled upon a neat, well written newsletter and learned quite a bit about our local soccer organization, Harleysville Soccer . The club, run by all volunteers, fields 110 intramural teams a year in addition to its travel and TOPS programs, and they also run a soccer day to showcase the skills of the players in the organization. The soccer day has become so popular it has grown to two days this year. Amazing considering it is all done with volunteer support. These people devote countless hours to all kinds

The culture of praise in the workplace

Heard this on NPR today, and thought it was pretty interesting, or at least interesting enough to share with you. It was about our, or my generations need for praise, not just in the workplace, but for life in general. Maybe it's just because I sell products that help people recognize achievement, but I do not see this as a bad thing. One caller said that we should blame Mr. Rogers, but again I can't see why we need to blame anyone. People need recognition . It doesn't need to be over the top recognition, but a pat on the back goes a long way for most all people. Even adults like getting recognized for a job well done. We are a society that thrives on motivation and in this day and age, we need to do whatever we can to get the most out of our human resources. These are the biggest asset of any company and should be watched closely. People make and sell the things. People make relations and believe in the products they are buying and paying the prices they
